Kim Jong-un launches missile tests whenever he's angry at US, claims former North Korean chef

North Korean tyrant Kim Jong-Un launches missile tests whenever he gets angry with America, claims his father’s former chef

The dictator often makes snap military decisions when he becomes frustrated with US policy towards his impoverished, brutal nation, claims Kenji Fujimoto, who cooked for Jong-un’s dad Kim Jong-il.
But Fujimoto told Japanese newspaper Mainichi Shimbun that Kim "has no mind to start a war”.
The chef recently returned to North Korea more than a decade after he escaped through China and defected to Japan. He released a memoir of his experiences in 2003.
He was welcomed to North Korea between April 12-23, despite his defection, and had a private three-hour dinner with Kim.

North Korea's drive to develop a nuclear capability has intensified since January, when it conducted its fourth nuclear test and followed that with a string of tests of missiles that could deliver such a weapon.
US President Barack Obama said in an interview aired on Tuesday that there "was no easy solution" to the North Korean threat and while the United States "could destroy North Korea with our arsenals", there would not only be humanitarian costs but also potential impact on South Korea.
The North may be readying to launch an intermediate-range ballistic missile after a failed attempt this month, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported yesterday.

Anything Can Happen In America

This is really exciting time in America; watching the drama of the 2016 Presidential nomination process from a distance, I find the contests, the debates, the arguments, the hustling and jostling on both sides of the mainstream political aisle, most instructive, and intriguing. The world’s most advanced democracy is proving once again that freedom is a golden ideal and that anyone who seeks to lead it, must undergo a rigorous test of leadership and courage. So far, the presidential primaries have proven to be a sifting process, and after last Tuesday, better known as Super Tuesday, many of the otherwise promising candidates have dropped out of the race, leaving the field to just a few survivors.
Anything Can Happen In America By Reuben Abati
But the prospects are clear: Senator Hillary Clinton seems a sure bet on the Democratic side, with Senator Bernie Sanders still trailing behind. The Republicans too may well end up with Donald Trump. The other contenders: Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and John Kasich may not succeed in displacing Trump. And this in itself is a source of anxiety, to both Americans and non-Americans alike. If the race gets down to a Hillary Clinton vs Donald Trump scenario, we all have every reason to be anxious. Suppose Trump wins and becomes America’s President?
Donald Trump is a snarling insurgent and a nativist. He has said all the worse things that should never be uttered by anyone seeking to lead a responsible and diverse nation. His campaign has been marked by insults, anger, put downs, bully tactics, rants and unapologetic immaturity.  He has not been able to articulate any coherent policy, but he has proved to be very creative with populist histrionics. The list of Trumpisms is so frighteningly long and embarrassing.  He recommends torture, and the killing of families of terrorists. He has been endorsed by white supremacists and he doesn’t quite seem to mind being labeled a racist. He threatens violence and on one occasion, he almost punched a protester in the face. He even got into an altercation with the Pope. He wants to barricade the American South border, and build a wall to shut out Mexico, because according to him, the Mexicans who cross the border into America are “rapists.” And when that wall is built, he insists Mexico must pick up the bill.
He doesn’t want Muslims inside America either, and he has dismissed Africans as unwanted and Nigerians as a problem. He says:
“We need to get the Africans out. Not the blacks, the Africans. Especially the Nigerians. They’re everywhere. I went for a rally in Alaska and met just one African in the entire state. Where was he from? Nigeria! He’s in Alaska taking our jobs. They’re in Houston taking our jobs. Why can’t they stay in their own country? Why? I’ll tell you why. Because they are corrupt. Their Governments are so corrupt, they rob the people blind and bring it all here to spend. And their people run away and come down here and take our jobs! We can’t have that! If I become president, we’ll send them all home. We’ll build a wall at the Atlantic Shore. Then maybe we’ll re-colonize them because obviously they did not learn a damn thing from the British!”
This certainly cannot be the temperament of a man who wants to be President.  Indeed, one of the most amazing things that has happened in the on-going process is how a real estate and reality television celebrity, whose best achievement is inheriting wealth, and turning around a family business, more by instinct rather than any special technocratic ability, has ended up, getting close to winning the Presidential nomination of the Republican Party, with the frightening prospect of becoming President of the United States on January 20, 2017.
The irony is that everyone underestimated him. The media loved the headlines that he offered with his many offensive remarks. He was regarded in many quarters as a comical distraction, and a bubble that may soon burst. There were pictures of his current wife, looking like a siren, with her drop-dead gorgeous figure, and skimpy dressing that belongs more to Hollywood rather than the White House. When Ted Cruz upstaged him in the Iowa caucuses, there were sighs of relief, but since then The Donald has won every other primary, and on March 1, he won in seven of the 11 states.  He is also likely to do better than his closest rivals in the coming caucuses. Except a miracle happens, Donald Trump will be the Republican flagbearer for the 2016 Presidential election. He has received endorsements from key members of the Republican establishment, something that was thought unlikely. In a recent debate, his fiercest opponents even said they would support anyone that wins the GOP nomination.  It may be too late to “dump Trump.”
He did not invent the votes that have put him comfortably in the lead. Republican voters actually gave him the votes.  While voters at party primaries do not represent the general voting population, they are nevertheless saying something about the American mind at this moment. Trump’s message of xenophobia, protectionism and isolationism attracts large followership and excites the conservative crowd. The average American is angry: angry with his circumstances, with the establishment, with the lack of jobs, with the economy, with politicians, with foreigners. Trump shapes all that anger into rhetoric and he offers himself as an alternative. He is not part of the establishment; he is against it.  He calls himself a “common sense conservative” but he is actually a political insurgent. The only time he has said anything that sounded Presidential was after Super Tuesday, when he departed from his usual script.
This has been taken as a sign that perhaps Trump will re-brand, and that his style so far has been nothing but populist gimmickry. As President of the United States, he would probably change that style, recruit experts to handle state affairs, and restrain himself.  But can America afford to vote on the basis of that possibility? Can America afford to gamble? Trump is impulsive and non-conventional; there is no guarantee that his Presidency will not trump America and embarrass the party of Abraham Lincoln.  The character of the leader affects nearly everything else.  It will be too much to believe that Donald Trump is merely acting, given his surplus confidence.
Mrs. Hillary Clinton is a better choice, but going into a general election, she would have to deal with the division within the Democratic fold. Bernie Sanders, her leading rival, has such a devoted grassroots followership that has divided the Democrats into the pro- and anti-establishment wings. Sanders has mobilized such a fanatical political base within the party and on social media that does not trust Mrs Clinton. She has been branded a friend of Wall Street and the status quo, whereas Sanders and his supporters insist that the best way forward is to change how Washington works, and they do not believe Mrs Clinton can do that.
Despite her attempts to move a little to the left in recent times, the insurgents running a “Bernie or Bust” campaign may move to the Trump side during the general elections because they are convinced she is play-acting, just to win the nomination.  Bernie Sanders of Vermont is admired for his progressive, liberal ideas.  But again, just as in Trump’s case, his mostly young supporters are motivated by anger and insecurity. Sanders wants to redistribute wealth, checkmate Wall Street, and revolutionize health care. The young and the angry are excited but those ideas are not properly articulated in policy terms. And in any case, will the American voter be willing to have as President a man who says he is a “socialist?”
Mrs Clinton’s big challenge is to play the role of a unifier and take steps to unite the party, after winning the Democratic nomination.  She will definitely need that “Bernie or Bust”crowd. She struck the right chord when she spoke recently about love and unity, quoting the Scriptures.“Love never fails. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (I Corinthians 13),”  she said.
“These are words to live by, not only for ourselves, but also for our country. I know it sometimes seems a little odd for someone running for president in these days, in this time, to say we need more love and kindness in America. But I’m telling you from the bottom of my heart we do. We do.
“There is no doubt in my mind that America’s best years can be ahead of us. We have got to believe that. We’ve got to work for that. We have to stand with each other. We have to hold each other up, lift each other up, move together into the future that we will make.”
These are wise, consolatory words.  Mrs Clinton has her heart in the right place and has both the experience and the maturity to lead America.  Senator, former Secretary of State, and 42ndFirst Lady of the United States, more than 25 years in the limelight has exposed Hillary Rodham Clinton to intense media scrutiny, creating what many consider an image problem. But whatever that is, it can be surmounted.  A Presidential contest between her and Trump will amount to a choice between love and hate, between the sober and the outrageous, between the respectable and the grossly self-contradictory. America needs to encourage love and kindness within its borders and also stand with the rest of the world. The angry American voter who feels under-represented, alienated, jobless and unfulfilled, and who desperately wants to punish the establishment, may be making a comment on mainstream politics, orthodoxy and the performance of the Obama administration. But that anger should not be turned against the rest of the world by putting a xenophobe and closet dictator in the White House.
Democracy is tricky; it sometimes ends up as a parody of itself.  When the people clamour for change, they can vote with their hearts, and prove impervious to plain sight reason, and overlook likely pitfalls.  We can only hope that Donald Trump does not become the symbol of the change that Americans are seeking. That would be sad indeed for the free world.

Ekweremadu Named Anti-Corruption Ambassador

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday named Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, as its anti-corruption ambassador.
According to a statement signed by Uche Anichukwu, Ekweremadu’s media aide, Suleiman Bakari, national assembly liason officer, disclosed this when he led a team of the anti-graft agency on a courtesy visit to Ekweremadu.
Ekweremadu Named Anti-Corruption Ambassador
The statement quoted Bakari as saying the commission appreciates the deputy senate president for the role he had been playing in the fight against graft.
“Your Excellency, on behalf of my acting chairman, Ibrahim Mustafa Magu and the entire management and staff of the EFCC, I decorate you as an anti-corruption ambassador and formally present this frame, as a token of our appreciation to your person and office, and as a symbol of institutional partnership between the EFCC and the national assembly,” Bakari said.
He appealed to the national assembly to ensure adequate funding for the agency, and also advocated speedy passage of all the anti-corruption bills before it.
Ekweremadu appreciated the gesture, and called for the establishment of special anti-corruption courts to reduce the burden on regular courts.
He also said the establishment of the special courts would help in fast-tracking the corruption trials.
“Setting up special courts, is one of the surest ways to help the fight against corruption, as it would ensure speedy adjudication of corruption cases,” he said.
“I have been an advocate of special courts for the trial of corruption cases and I believe that other countries, who have enacted laws establishing such, are not fools because there are benefits to be derived there from. The idea is to expedite trial to make sure that those who are involved in corruption matters will have their day in court.
“When we have special courts, just as we have the National Industrial Court, such courts will do better than they are doing now.
“The establishment of special courts is not just something that will be done by an Act of the National Assembly. We have to amend the constitution to bring it about under section 6, for the purpose of trying corruption cases.”

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) repelled the Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) attacks at the strategic villages of Bala and Tal Sawwan on Tuesday, killing over 15 enemy combatants while restoring security to the area.

Among the 15+ militants killed inside the East Ghouta villages of Bala and Tal Sawwan, the Jaysh Al-Islam field commander, Ramah Al-‘Az, was reportedly identified among the dead by the Syrian Arab Army.

During the militant assault, the Special Mission Forces (SMF) of the Syrian Air Force Intelligence reportedly apprehended one of the top commanders of Jaysh Al-Islam at the village of Tal Sawwan on Tuesday.

“Abu Nasser Al-Barzawi” was captured by the Special Mission Forces after they infiltrated the extremist group’s front-lines.

We stand with Nigeria in battle against Boko Haram — David Cameron

The United Kingdom (UK) says it is supporting Nigeria in the ongoing war against the Boko Haram insurgents.
UK Minister for International Development, Nick Hurd, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the UK had a very long cordial relationship with Nigeria.
We stand with Nigeria in battle against Boko Haram — David Cameron
“The very long partnership between UK and Nigeria matters a great deal to us; even my Prime Minister has made it very clear that we stand shoulder to shoulder with Nigeria in the battle against Boko Haram.
“We understand how many thousands and millions of peoples’ lives have been devastated by the atrocities in the North East.
“We are determined to help our own friend and partner to defeat that barbaric group,’’ he said.
Mr. Hurd said at the moment, the UK’s support took the form of a big commitment to training and capacity building in the military.
He said his country was pleased with the successes so far recorded by the military against Boko Haram insurgents recently.
On the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls, Mr. Hurd said UK was always supportive of the determination to ensure the safe return of the girls but challenged Nigeria to lead the girls’ rescue.

Biafra: DSS, prison officials jointly manhandling Nnamdi Kanu in custody – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has alleged that prison authorities have joined forces with operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, to manhandle its embattled leader, Nnamdi Kanu in Kuje Prison.
Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers
This was disclosed in a statement by the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful.
The group said, “His life is uncomfortable in the prison, the prison authorities have joined hands with DSS to manhandle Nnamdi and they have mandated that anybody who him will go through severe searching when going in and coming out.
“IPOB calls on the public to note that if anything happen to Kanu, we will hold the prison comptroller responsible,” it said.
The group also took a swipe at federal lawmakers from the South- East and South-South for not stopping the National Grazing Reserves Commission Bill which passed the second reading.
IPOB said the selfish and personal interest of the lawmakers from the two zones was why they were been used by their colleagues from the North, adding that they have failed in representing their people.
The group’s spokesman claimed that the federal lawmakers have been allegedly bought over by their Hausa/Fulani counterparts in the Senate and House of Representatives.
He said, “IPOB are warning them that this is a systematic way of bringing the invaders into our land and they are coming to Islamize us (we children of Chukwu Okike Abiama) God Almighty.
“Again, we are warning the South-East and South-South governors to tread with caution because we don’t have places to use as Fulani ranch and any governor who allocates a place will bear the consequences and posterity will never forgive those who sabotage his or her people.
“More so, the highest producers of cows grazing and ranch in the world is Argentina followed by Australia, they have not been ravaging and destroying farmland or causing problems with the people, let the northern governors allocate enough land in their state to them because we have no land for cow rearing in Biafraland.”

Two years after Chibok, Boko Haram survivors describe how they can never truly escape

Two years after the world united in outrage over the abduction of hundreds of schoolgirls from the remote Nigerian village of Chibok, the horror for Boko Haram’s victims is not over – even for those who escaped.
yagana-3.jpg
Speaking in an exclusive interview for The Independent, Boko Haram survivor Yagana reveals how she and her children still face the distrust and stigma of being a “Sambisa woman”, named after the forest where militants hid following the Chibok kidnaps.
She was living in Bama in northeast Nigeria with her mother and children when the militants arrived.
“It was Fajr [prayer] when they came,” she says. “We were on our way running to the barracks in Bama, when they shot two people in front of us. We ran back home and stayed there.
“My mother and two of my children ran in a different direction. My husband and I were divorced, so he was somewhere else too. Boko Haram took us to Shehu’s Palace and enrolled us in Islamic school.”
It is not known how many of the Chibok girls themselves are still alive. Only 57 of the 276 schoolgirls are confirmed as having escaped, and a video that emerged on Thursdaypurports to show just 15 of those still in captivity.
But while the video and the anniversary itself have sparked renewed calls to “bring back our girls”, little attention has been paid to the fate of those who, after suffering horrific treatment at the hands of Islamists, are victimised all over again when they return to mistrust and persecution in their communities.
Yagana is one of around 250 survivors who have been working with the peace-building charity International Alert to overcome the stigma that goes with being former Boko Haram “wives”.
The process aims to teach the victims about forgiveness and understanding through Islamic principles, and part of that involves discussing their experiences of capture.

“All they brought us to eat was beans,” Yagana says. “We were not allowed to go anywhere.
“When you are with them, there is a constant fear that they can kill you. Or maybe the bombs or stray bullets from the [government] soldiers can also kill you. It was just terrible.”
Yagana says it was when she and her fellow captives were told they would be “married” to fighters – Boko Haram’s pretext for allowing its members to rape victims – that they felt compelled to risk fleeing.
“They said our men were pagans and they would marry us themselves. So the day before the marriage, we jumped over the fence and ran.”
It took Yagana a month to recover from the physical trauma of what she had been through – but the psychological challenges remain, in spite of the workshops focussed on recovery and forgiveness being run by Alert and its partners in the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (Fomwan).
Yagana says she “didn’t like the women [at the displacement camp where she now lives]… they would whisper when I passed by”.
Another survivor, Aisha, told International Alert how she became pregnant after she was raped by a Boko Haram fighter. “I felt helpless and felt they had ruined my life, and no one would now take care of me… “I hated the baby”.
Like Yagana, Aisha says life was “bad” in a government camp even after she was freed as part of the major Nigerian army offensive in late 2015.
“The women called me ‘Boko Haram wife’ and wouldn’t let me use their belongings. A group of them even beat me up,” she said.
The Nigerian government says it is assessing the new video to establish its authenticity, but two women whose daughters are missing have confirmed their identities among those shown.
The footage is the first to emerge of the girls since May 2014. It is understood to have been filmed on Christmas Day 2015, and sent to the Nigerian government as a representation of “proof of life” for the wider group.
Charities say the Chibok girls represent just a tenth of all the women and girls abducted by Boko Haram since 2012 to be used as “wives”, sex slaves and, in some cases, suicide bombers.
They want the second anniversary of the most famous single kidnapping to focus attention not just on those who are still captives, but on those who are trying to rebuild their lives once free.
Kimairis Toogood from International Alert said: “With more victims now returning from captivity, we are appealing to the international community and the Nigerian government to do more now to support efforts to re-integrate them, and ensure they can build a life for themselves and their children.”

Fayose Writes Chinese Govt Not to Give Loan to Nigeria

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has written to the Chinese government, seeking the stoppage of the $2 billion loan being sought by the federal government of Nigeria.
He wrote that "the government of China should be mindful of the fact that Nigerians, irrespective of their political and religious affiliations are totally opposed to increment of the country's debt burden, which is already being serviced with 25 per cent of the Federal Government annual budget."
In the letter dated April 12, 2016, with reference number EK/GOV/28/10, addressed to President Xi Jinping of China and delivered by Chief of Staff to the governor, Barrister Dipo Anisulowo in Abuja on Thursday, through the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Gu Xiaojie, Fayose said some of the projects for which the loan was being sought were not captured in the controversial 2016 budget, which has been sent to the President by the National Assembly for his assent.
Anisulowo, who was accompanied by Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Segun Adewumi, Chairman House Committee on Information, Gboyega Aribisogan, Chairman House Committee on Health, Dr Samuel Omotosho and Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said Governor Fayose, who is in China will also deliver a copy of the letter directly to the Chinese President.
The letter read in part: "I write as one of the major stakeholders in the project Nigeria, and a governor of one of the federating units making up Nigeria, to draw your attention to report that the Federal Government of Nigeria is on the verge of obtaining a $2 billion loan from the Export-Import Bank of China.
"This $2 billion loan is part of the N1.84 trillion the Federal Government of Nigeria has proposed to borrow to finance the 2016 budget, which is yet to be signed by the President, Mohammadu Buhari owing to unending controversies between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.
"According to reports, Nigeria desires to raise about $5 billion abroad to cover part of its 2016 budget deficit. This is projected to hit N3 trillion ($15 billion) due to heavy infrastructure spending at a time when the slump in global oil prices has slashed the country's export revenues.
"While conceding that all nations, especially developing ones need support to be able to grow because no nation is an island, I am constrained to inform you that if the future of Nigeria must be protected, the country does not need any loan at this time.
"The government of China should be mindful of the fact that Nigerians, irrespective of their political and religious affiliations are totally opposed to increment of the country's debt burden, which is already being serviced with 25 per cent of the Federal Government annual budget.
"It will interest the government of China to know that some of the projects for which the loan is being sought are not captured in the controversial 2016 budget, which has been sent to the President by the National Assembly for his assent. For instance, the Lagos - Calabar Rail project was not included in the budget proposal the President presented to the National Assembly and it was not included in the Appropriation Bill passed by the National Assembly.
"Most importantly, Nigeria is presently servicing debt with about 25 per cent of its annual budget and what will happen to the economy in 2017, when the country will begin to service the additional debt to be incurred this year is better imagined than experienced.
"The Chinese government must also be aware that some western nations approached by the Federal Government for loan diplomatically and cleverly declined.
"This must have been informed by the suspicion in the present government's capacity to salvage the nation's economy as well as the sincerity in the fight against corruption. More so that Nigeria's Foreign Reserve, which is the only guarantee for foreign loan has declined to a very uncomfortable level."

Man Sentenced 3 Years For N3.8m Credit Card Scam

Justice Kuewumi Babs of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has convicted and sentenced Abdulhakeem Daud to three years imprisonment for credit card fraud.
The convict was arraigned before the court on Thursday on a two-count charge bordering on possession and fraudulent use of credit card. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to three years in prison.

One of the charges read: “That you Abdulhakeem A. Daud( a.k.a Adewale Adeyemi) between the 23rd of October 2015 and 7th of January, 2016 at Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, used Visa Credit Card no.4147788569112614 issued to one Thomas A Boyer and obtained services worth the sum of Three Million Eight Hundred and Forty Five Thousand Six Hundred and Seventy One Naira, Forty Four kobo (N3,845,671.44) from Radisson Blue Anchorage Hotel of 1A, Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Victoria Island, Lagos and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 33(1) of the Cybercrime
( Prohibition Prevention ) Act ,2015.

Justice Babs sentenced him to two years imprisonment on count one with an option of N500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira only) fine. On count two, Daud was sentenced to one year imprisonment with another option of N500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira only) fine. The sentences are to run concurrently with hard labour while the fine shall be cumulative.

Trouble began for Daud when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, received a petition from Radison Blue Anchorage Hotel, Lagos alleging that the convict made use of its services and paid all his bills with an un-funded credit card. Investigations were conducted and several incriminating documents were discovered in his hotel room. Findings showed that the purported credit card the convict used to pay his bills was actually issued to one Thomas Boyer, an American.

We Will Build Cities Comparable To Developed Countries – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Shanghai said his administration will give priority to the building and development of resilient and viable cities comparable with other developed cities across the globe.
image
At separate meetings with the Mayor of the Chinese city of Shanghai, Mr. Yang Xiong and the Director of Shanghai Free Trade Zone, Liu Fangzhou, President Buhari said the Federal Government would give full support to Free Trade and Export Processing Zones in the country to spur rapid economic development.
The President, who visited the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, said Nigeria was prepared to learn how to make our cities more viable from those that have achieved development.
“We have already identified the development of infrastructure which will bring industries that create jobs and help us to diversify the economy.
“We are going to work hard to achieve these within the period we have in office. Nigerians will see progress and feel the impact,” the President said.
Commending the hardwork and incredible success story of the city of Shanghai, President Buhari said the virtues of hard work were central to every human achievement and development.
In his remarks, the Mayor of Shanghai expressed the willingness of several Chinese businesses to key into the vision of the Chinese President Xi Jinping for Africa by investing in Nigeria.

Also speaking, the Director of the Free Trade Zone commended the effort of the Nigerian government towards the diversification of the economy and encouraged the country to focus on a favorable policy environment to encourage foreign investors.
