Gunmen abduct mother of Taraba deputy gov, demand ransom

– Hajiya Hauwa-Belli Manu, the mother of the deputy governor of Taraba state, Haruna Manu, has been abducted
– The Taraba police command confirmed the abduction 
– Alhaji Tukura Bashir, the chairman of the council, revealed that one person was killed as the gunmen shot continuously to pave the way for their escape with their victim
Unknown gunmen have reportedly abducted a mother of the deputy governor of Taraba state, Haruna Manu.
Unknown gunmen have abducted Hajiya Hauwa-Belli Manu, the mother of the deputy governor of Taraba state, Haruna Manu.
The Punch reports that the Taraba police command confirmed the abduction on Tuesday, February 9.
Joseph Kwaji, the police public relations officer of the command, revealed that the elderly woman was taken away by gunmen from the family home of the deputy governor at about 9pm on Monday, February 8.
The police officer noted that the command had deployed additional detectives in Gassol local government area of the state to assist in tracking and arresting the abductors.
Appealing to the public, Kwaji said that anyone who has useful information should contact the nearest police station and present it.
Speaking with Vanguard, an eye witness, who pleaded for anonymity, said that the gunmen came on three motor-cycles.
“They came on three motor-cycles, they forcefully entered the house and forced the old woman to climb their motor-cycles. They were hostile in their approach and ready to harm any one who stand in their way.”
“The person that carried the old woman was in the front of the two who were guarding from behind.”
“The second motor-cycle man fell down while they were trying to escape with the old woman, it was in the middle of the house of a neighbour to the deputy governor.”
“When the nighbour rush out to ask who was riding motor cycle in his compound, the gunmen who fell from the motor cycle got up and shot at the nighbour who is the landlord three times,” the witness said.
Confirming the incident, Alhaji Tukura Bashir, the chairman of the council, said that one person was killed as the gunmen shot continuously to pave the way for their escape with their victim.
Meanwhile, a family source has revealed that the abductors phoned a family member this morning and demanded 300 million naira ransom.
The source added that Mrs Manu spoke to the relatives and confirmed that she was kept unhurt.

The aggrieved father said that the abductors had first picked up his 6-year-old daughter and his son from their Marafa estate residence, but later dropped off his daughter along Sultan road and went away with the son.
